Its a great place, entry fee is very reasonable. I havent seen this many cactus plants anywhere else. Some are very old like 60 years and they are huge

My friend and I visited here in the afternoon, our husband’s didn’t want to go so it was good to have company. There wasn’t anyone in the office when we... read more arrived so we slipped payment under the door as instructed and proceeded around the gardens. It is only a small garden but there were some interesting plants growing here some of them 80+ years old. The cactus were from all over the world and there were little plaques describing the plants, their age and where they were from. It only took us one hour to walk all around. It only cost $10 each to enter so good value for money.

If you love succulents and cacti, this is an... read more absolute treat. The variety alone is awesome. All the plants, approximately 2000 of them, are labelled with names, age, origin and other great info.
Bevan's Cactus Garden was one of the highlights of our stay in Lightning Ridge.
Unfortunately nobody was around the day we went so we couldn't see the opal collection.

For me, I had no idea that cacti are generally slow growers and the size of the plants on display shows significant age.

We went there to see if we could buy some small cactus plants and being an avid bird photographer when i saw those many different birds feeding on the flowers... read more and the plants I hastily went for my camera.
It turned out to be an excellent place to watch and photograph 15 different species including Spotted Bower Bird, Red-winged Parrot, Pale-headed Rosella, Mallee Ringneck, Red-rumped Parrot and Rainbow Lorikeets
A White-winged Triller was nesting in the large gum tree, and a Olive-backed Oriole paid a visit while we were there. Spine-cheeked and Blue-faced Honeyeaters and Little Friarbirds were feeding on the cactus flowers.
Several Spotted Bowerbirds were seen under the Cactus plants.
A family of Blue Bonnets were seen just outside the place,

It's over-priced at $10pp (and they only take cash) but if you love cacti then it's definitely worth a visit if you're in Lightning Ridge, as they have a beautiful collection.

This was interesting, it was a nice change from looking at old machinery and broken down cars and trucks. At least there was some point to the plantings. The garden... read more has obviously been here a long time, I haven’t seen a garden that has so many enormous plants. We obviously just missed the flowering season, it would have been nice, but the architectural beauty of the cacti is undeniable. Nice to wander around the gardens, it’s peaceful and almost seems out of place in this rugged mining landscape.
